      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

With plenty of pulpy action, a pleasantly retro vibe, and a handful of fine performances, Captain America is solidly old-fashioned blockbuster entertainment.

Audience Member "And I'm glad to be an American". Amazing origin story for Captain America with strong writing, great plot and memorable characters, most notably Redskull. The vintage style really complements everything this movie is going for. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/18/24 Full Review Christian W Pretty good film, the pacing can get a little wonky here and there but overall, I enjoy watching Chris Evans play his role and the relationship he has with Peggy Carter. The Red Skull again is another one of those villains with a less than stellar motive. He wants power for the sake of wanting power, he wants to be that perfect being that Captain America is and push himself to be a god. It is an okay motive but just not super interesting to me. The action of this film hadn't really been figured out really, Captain America doesn't truly feel like he is more powerful than the average human. Then the ending, though Captain America could fly the jet to the land and get it land somewhere more practical so then he could eject from the plane, you feel the tension and the sadness that Peggy Carter feels at the very end to lose the one she loves. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/08/24 Full Review Joe B Classic movie, with strong writing, decent acting, and great character development. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/04/24 Full Review Bruk T Built upon a picturesque 1940s environment, Captain America: The First Avenger really delivers the thrill and proper treatment to America's greatest hero, fusing a drizzle of subtle romance and the presence of the scheming Hydra, Rogers appears as sleek as ever before. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Fetti The First Avenger sets up Steve Rogers in retro-style and tons of great visuals and action, with strong performances from leads to support the plotline. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Jacob C Chris Evans was meant to play this role. As a part of Marvel's first set of movies in this phase, it was a stellar performance Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
