Has anyone got a mio gps. I bought one because I believed they were the best. Although I cant seem to find anywhere to download maps.
I registered it and then when trying to find more info it just goes round and round or changes the language on their web site.
Anyone know how to get maps for that one.

Hello - I have Mio P550 also -
mine came with MioMap V3.2 voice navigation software on an SD card - is this what you are chasing?
Not sure if you can buy it separately or what "maps" you were expecting to be able to download.
The Australian website is here
Mio Tech Australia
I can not find software on there website either so maybe ring them
Customer Service Hotlinel: 1300 646 477.
The Mio I have is a "PDA" and will run a variety of GPS Navigation and mapping software packages so you dont actually need to use their product - eg pick one of these if you like -
PDA GPS Mapping Navigation Programs
once you have the program you want the maps then become issue - OziExplorerCe is probably the most popular GPS mapping software used in Aus (on PDA's) and there are many map sets available - but it may not suit you needs. One of the voice nav programs may better? What exactly do you want?
Cheers
Greg

Hello - Ok getting picture - OziExplorerCe (and other PDA software) is operating system specific - brand name of your PDA is irrelevant. If you wish to use a program on on PDA you need to establish what the operating system is e.g. Windows Mobile 5, and then find a GPS mapping software program that will run on it. lts not a case of just finding "maps" and uploading them.
Cheers

Hello Davoe - can understand your frustration but wouldnt be reading to much into one battery failure. My money is on all makes and models failing to work for one reason or another at some stage of the game for a variety for reasons. It certainly is a confusing game with so many to choose from and a bit of luck is involved getting the one that suits your needs.
Cheers

According to this website
Link to Mio C520 review and specs
it has an inbuilt Sirf 3 chipset and runs Mio Map V3.3 which is the same as my Mio C220 - it's pretty good mapping software and guided me over the Davies Plain recently. You do not need any software other than that already built in as far as I can see.
The Mio support site appears to be down currently but if you go here
Link to Mio C520 manual
and click on "Manuals" you should be able to figure out what to do with.

I had a MIO P550.
Hands down...worst GPS I've ever come across.
Random crashes, won't turn on, battery life useless. Sits in the desk draw now.

Hello - there is a patch that supposedly fixes the "wont turn on" issue (if caused by leaving on and draining battery).
Get it here..
Mio P550 Power on Patch
Randon Crashes? - what program/programs were running whene this occurred? Must admit i dont use anything much besided OziCe - never "crashes".
Unit occassionaly needs a soft reset - seems to be when cables/power attached when unit running - must cause a spasm somewhere. Based on my experience soft resets are a normal way of life for PDA's i.e. not brand/model specific. I have had 3 different HP Ipaqs in the past and they were at least as temperamental as the Mio. Inbuilt GPS is the boon - one less thing to plug in or manually connect.
Battery life is about 5 hours - depending if backlight on/off. Not sure how this rates against other PDA's, though it is a bit less than my last HP. I use a battery extender if i think i will need some extra time.
Battery extender Mio P550
Expensive thing to have in draw - how much do you want for it?
Cheers

Have already tried that patch, didn't really make any difference to my unit.
Regarding the random crashes, I can be running either the Miomap software, using contacts, trying to enter the PIN I have setup when I turn the unit on - it's just very unpredictable.
At times I will be in Miomap, and if I try using some buttons within that software, it's as if the desktop icons are being pressed instead, even though they are not visible!
Battery life I get would be 30 mins max. When it was brand new, maybe 60 mins max.
Ipaq's are perfect either, but the Ipaq I have is a hell of a lot better than the MIO.
Still wanna buy it?? Im happy to accept offers!

It sounds as if the unit you have has a hardware fault - they make thousands of these things - inevitably some will break - if it only had a 60 minute battery life when new why did you choose not to return it under warranty?
