Sounds like the drive became corrupted and requires reformatting. If you format, you will lose what ever data is on it. If that is acceptable, go ahead and reformat. However, I would not trust this device with critical files.
If you must have what ever data is on the USB drive, you can try an application like recuva (piriform.com) to recover your files. Afterwards, format the drive.
