hey guys so I have done a bunch on looking aroud and have found some workarounds for the toshiba stack problem and XP but with Vista I can't figure anything out yet.

I know the problem is that you need to have windows drivers and not the toshiba drivers for the bluetooth stack for the desktop manager to recognize your bluetooth.

    Anyone have an ideas.

I have Vista with an internal bluetooth in my Toshiba laptop. My bluetooth selection is grayed out in the desktop manager.

    Thanks.

I am running Vista with a Toshiba bluetooth chip. All you need to do is to make sure that you do NOT load the Toshiba stack, and let Windows discover the device and load it's own drivers. You need to use the Microsoft bluetooth stack.

It's been working great for me.

Ok so I uninstalled the Toshiba stuff but when I restart windows doesn't even recognize a bluetooth for me? It doesn't do anything and when I try to add it manually it doesn't find any stack that way either.

How exactly did you do it?

did you by chance loose the BT drivers by uninstalling the toshiba stack? You should be able to download the drivers from toshiba and not the bluetooth stack

well the problem is I can't have the toshiba drivers from what I've read I need windows to install its own drivers for the stack.

I have the toshiba drivers on the harddrive if I need them but I need windows to install its own drivers.

Yes, you need to have the native microsoft bt drivers (DM's BT support is very crappy).

You may have to force the microsoft drivers if windows does not autodetect.

First, before you uninstall the Toshiba stack, go into device manager and find out the device ID of your BT radio. It should be in the form of VID_xxxx&PID_XXXX

Uninstall your toshiba stack, then edit the bth.inf on your computer and add a line in your manufacturer's section like:
My BlueTooth Device = BthUsb, USB\VID_xxxx&PID_XXXX

Save the inf, reboot, and windows should now load the microsoft BT stack.

ya see I've done all that but I just can't get windows to detect the bluetooth. It's like its turned off and the system isn't detecting it even being there.

    hmm

Try removing the hardware, then restart. With any luck, windows should now find the "new" hardware and install the generic drivers.

After deleting the Toshiba Driver did you go into Windows Control Panel and add New Devices? I just did that for two Thinkpads (T69) and it worked and I now see the Microsoft BT Data Enumerator.

I was wondering what bluetooth profiles are working with the Storm? I can get mine to connect using Toshiba drivers on Vista but only Audio Profile is working. I want to tether, legally using bluetooth and Verizon said it isn't a feature. Only way I can tether is with a USB cable. If I change to Broadcom or native Windows bluetooth stack what other profiles will be enabled for the Storm?

    Thanks.

You can definitely tether using Bluetooth if you get the right drivers. I used the bluesoleil drivers BlueSoleil, the most easy-to-use, innovative and interoperable Bluetooth software,Bluetooth driver. They will cost you $30.

Im thinking maybe I should just get an external bluetooth card cause this is impossible to use with the toshiba stack
